FAQ for care givers

On this page we answer questions that carers often ask us about how HalloBabysitter works.

 

Is there a cost for me to register?

No. Registration and use of HalloBabysitter are free of charge for carers.

From what age can I work as a babysitter?

The minimum age for registering with HalloBabysitter is 16 years. The Youth Labour Protection Act (JArbSchG) applies to young people and children under the age of 18. Children are persons who are not yet 15 years old. Adolescents are persons who are 15 but not yet 18 years old (§ 2). The employment of children and young people who are required to attend school full-time is prohibited by law. However, there is an exemption for light work, including for children aged 13 and over (§ 5). Babysitting is permitted for up to 2 hours a day (between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m.) with the consent of the legal guardian. During school holidays, young people who are required to attend school full-time may also work longer for four weeks (§ 5).

How do I register as a babysitter or childminder?

Click on the registration link in the field for babysitters and childminders on the homepage to go to the registration form for childminders.

  1. Please complete the form there and send it off. You will then receive an automatic confirmation e-mail containing an activation link for your account. You can activate your account by clicking on the activation link (or by copying it into the browser bar and confirming with the Enter key).
  2. Once your account has been successfully activated, a form will appear in which you should enter your contact details. Your profile will later be displayed in the babysitter search based on your postcode. After saving your contact details, you will be directed to your account.
  3. You can now create your personal profile. Under my profile you can define your possible working hours, for example, and have the option of introducing yourself to families looking for a babysitter in a short application text. Of course, you can also upload a photo of yourself so that other users can get an idea of who you are.

Is my personal data freely accessible?

No. To protect your privacy, we do not publish your e-mail address, postal address or surname. This information is only used to confirm your registration and to forward contact requests via our internal mail system. However, in order for a service like HalloBabysitter to function and make referrals, it is necessary that its users are willing to share some information about themselves with other users.

  • All information that you provide in the application text of your profile is freely accessible
  • Information such as your telephone number(s) and your website as well as your postcode and place of residence are visible to registered members
  • Your email address and street and house number are not published

Our internal messaging system gives parents who have previously registered with us the opportunity to contact you. You can also reply to wanted adverts from parents in this way.

 

How do I find jobs for families?

You can find family vacancies by entering a city or postcode in the Find jobs search field in the quick search on the homepage. Alternatively, you can also use the job search to find jobs in your area: Simply enter the desired postcode or city name, set the radio button to at Babysitter jobs and click on find.

What is a babysitter certificate?

You will receive a babysitting certificate if you have completed a babysitting course at the German Red Cross (DRK) or another social organisation. This course is designed to prepare you for your job as a babysitter and usually covers the following topics:

  • Infant care
  • First aid for children
  • Rights and duties of a babysitter
  • Child development
  • Play education – activities with children

Such courses are offered by the German Red Cross (DRK), adult education centres, churches, the German Child Protection Association or the Workers’ Welfare Association (AWO). It comprises around 16 lessons and costs between 15 and 40 euros.

 

Can I delete my entry?

Yes. You can choose between two options in your account under the menu items Settings or My profile:

  • Deactivate profile: Select this option if you only want to temporarily hide your user profile from the search results on our site. Your account will remain active. You can reactivate your user profile at any time when you are ready to accept new enquiries again.
  • Deactivate account: Select this option to delete your user account.
